Acetic acid 0.6% 10 ml – sterile 0.6% acetic acid solution

What is Acetic acid 0.6%?

Acetic acid 0.6% (also known as ethanoic acid, Acetic Acid, formula CH₃COOH) is a sterile, specialised acidic solvent for reconstituting lyophilised peptides that require a low pH or have limited solubility in neutral aqueous solutions. It belongs to the category of peptide solutions and complements — does not replace — bacteriostatic water and Peptide Matrix Water™.

Important: Diluent/solvent for research/in vitro use only — not for stand-alone use, not a pharmaceutical product. A specialised solution; for most peptides the best universal premium choice is Peptide Matrix Water™.

Peptology offers acetic acid in a 10 ml 0.6% pack, sterile, with confirmed quality. For research/laboratory use only.

Composition: 10 ml (0.6% acetic acid)

VOLUME

10 ml sterile acidic solution for reconstituting peptides.

CONCENTRATION / pH

0.6% acetic acid, pH ~3 (acidic environment).

USE

Hydrophobic peptides, prone to aggregation, that require a low pH.

How it works — why an acidic pH

ACIDIC pH (~3)

The basic residues (lysine, arginine, histidine) become protonated — solubility increases.

HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDES

Molecules with many hydrophobic amino acids dissolve better in an acidic environment.

HPLC/MS COMPATIBLE

A standard component of HPLC mobile phases and MS protocols.

A tool for specific tasks. For most peptides the standard remains neutral bacteriostatic water, while for maximum stability Peptide Matrix Water™. The low pH also limits the growth of microorganisms.

Comparison: Acetic acid 0.6% vs Peptide Matrix Water™ vs Bacteriostatic water

In the category of peptide solutions there are three main solvents — from peptides that require an acidic pH to the universal, most stable premium choice.

Acetic acid 0.6% (this page) Peptide Matrix Water™
★ RECOMMENDED BY PEPTOLOGY
Bacteriostatic water
pH environment ~3 (acidic) ~7 (buffer) ~7 (neutral)
Ideal for Hydrophobic peptides / acidic pH Most peptides — universal premium Typical multi-dose reconstitution
Active stabilisation Via pH Multi-component (premium) None
GLP-1 / GIP peptides Not recommended Recommended Yes
Stability after opening ~14 days ~60 days ~28 days

Our recommendation: acetic acid 0.6% is an excellent, specialised tool for peptides that require an acidic environment. If, however, you want a universal solvent for most protocols, we recommend Peptide Matrix Water™ — wider use and greater stability (up to 60 days).

Which peptides it is most suitable for

  • IGF analogues / growth factors: IGF-1 LR3 and related — often require an acidic environment
  • HGH fragments and MGF: HGH Frag 176-191 and PEG-MGF — more hydrophobic, an acidic pH reduces aggregation
  • Regenerative peptides in selected protocols: BPC-157 (more often with bacteriostatic water)

When it is NOT suitable: for incretin peptides — Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, Retatrutide, Cagrilintide — which dissolve well in neutral solutions. Prefer Peptide Matrix Water™ or bacteriostatic water.

Research warning: Acetic acid 0.6% (ethanoic acid / Acetic Acid) is offered exclusively for research and in vitro purposes as a diluent/solvent. It is not a pharmaceutical product, supplement or medical aid, is not intended for consumption by humans/animals or for medical injections. The information reflects typical laboratory practice and is provided for information only.

Is ethanoic acid the same as acetic acid?

Yes. Ethanoic acid, acetic acid, Acetic Acid and Ethanoic Acid are names of the same compound (CH₃COOH). The 0.6% is the concentration of the solution.

How does it differ from bacteriostatic water?

Bacteriostatic water is a neutral solvent (pH ~7). Acetic acid 0.6% is an acidic solvent (pH ~3) for peptides that do not dissolve ideally in neutral solutions.

How to use

  • Disinfect the stoppers with a 70% alcohol wipe before each puncture
  • Add the solvent slowly down the wall — not onto the powder
  • Wait 10–15 minutes, swirling gently. Do not shake (foam → denaturation)
  • The solution should be clear, without particles
  • Calculate the concentration (1–5 mg/mL) and volumes with the peptide calculator

Storage

  • Before opening: room temperature (15–25 °C), in a dry, dark place
  • After opening: up to 14 days at room temperature; refrigeration (2–8 °C) extends it
  • Do not use if there is discolouration, particles or damaged sealing

Tip: For greater stability (up to 60 days) and a universal solvent we recommend Peptide Matrix Water™.

Laboratory protocol — reconstitution, research protocols, storage

Standard protocol, applicable to all research peptides in the Peptology catalogue. For the concentration of the solution (mg/mL) per vial, use the peptide reconstitution calculator.

The 60-second protocol

2. RECONSTITUTION

The solvent is added to the wall of the vial, without agitation, then wait 10–15 minutes.

3. CALCULATION

Calculator → concentration in mg/mL

4. STORAGE

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water

Quick reference

Parameter Value
Form Lyophilised powder
Solvent Peptide Matrix Water
Volume for reconstitution 1–3 mL — 3 mL maximum (capacity of the standard vial)
Storage before reconstitution Room temperature, protected from direct light (refrigeration is not mandatory)
After reconstitution Up to 60 days at +2 °C to +8 °C with Peptide Matrix Water

What you will need

Precision pipette

Calibrated, 100–1000 µL — for accurate measurement of the volume of solvent added to the vial.

70% alcohol pads

Two pads — to disinfect the peptide vial and the solvent vial.

Peptide Matrix Water

Stabilised solvent for lyophilised peptides. Why this one.

Five rules for reconstitution

✅ Correct ❌ Wrong
Disinfect the stoppers and the work surface with 70% alcohol, work with gloves Working without disinfection
The solvent is added slowly down the wall of the vial Direct jet onto the powder — foaming and denaturation
Light swirling between the palms Shaking — foam, on which the peptides denature
Wait 10–15 minutes at room temperature Mechanical mixing or heating
Visual inspection: clear, without particles Using a cloudy or coloured solution

Calculating the concentration

⚠️ Maximum 3 mL of solvent. The standard vial does not allow a larger volume — do not exceed it during reconstitution.

  • Concentration (mg/mL) = mg in the vial ÷ mL of solvent
  • Volume per sample (mL) = amount per sample (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
  • 1 mg/mL = 1 µg/µL · 1 mL = 1000 µL

👉 For any vial and solvent volume — use the calculator. It calculates the concentration (mg/mL, µg/µL) and the volume per sample (mL, µL).

Storage

BEFORE RECONSTITUTION

Room temperature, protected from direct light, in the original packaging. Refrigeration is not mandatory.

AFTER RECONSTITUTION

+2 °C to +8 °C, up to 60 days with Peptide Matrix Water. Discard the remainder after this period.

FREEZING

Not recommended. Freeze/thaw cycles degrade the structure of the peptide.

Four mistakes to avoid

1. Shaking for “faster dissolution”

Foam = denaturation. Only gentle swirling between the palms.

2. Unsuitable solvent

For the stability of the peptide structure, use only a sterile, purpose-designed solvent — Peptide Matrix Water is recommended.

3. Ignoring slight cloudiness

If it is not completely clear = the sample does not meet the criteria for work.

4. Removing it from the refrigerator “for an hour or two”

Short exposures add up and jeopardise stability.
