What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — an analogue of the incretin hormone GLP-1. One of the best known and most studied metabolic peptides, with an extensive literature on GLP-1 receptor signalling.
It activates the GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, gut and brain; it is studied for glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppression of glucagon and gastric emptying. Compared with dual agonists such as Tirzepatide (GLP-1+GIP), it acts on a single incretin receptor, with a very extensive literature.

Why Semaglutide has a long half-life
Natural GLP-1 has a short lifespan. Semaglutide is modified with a fatty acid that binds it to albumin, giving it a long half-life of ~7 days. In Phase III studies (STEP-1), semaglutide (2.4 mg) led to a weight reduction of ~15% over 68 weeks.

FREEZING

1. Shaking for “faster dissolution”
Foam = denaturation. Only gentle swirling between the palms.
2. Unsuitable solvent
